Remember & Renew Day 4

Remember when you're afraid

The Israelites were still in the wilderness when God began preparing them for the promised land. The nations ahead were stronger than they were, and fear could easily rise:

“You may say to yourselves, ‘These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?’ But don’t be afraid of them! Just remember what the LORD your God did…” — Deuteronomy 7:17–18 (NLT)

God did not simply tell them to stop being afraid. He told them to REMEMBER. They were to recall how He had delivered them from Egypt, made a way through the Red Sea, and sustained them in the wilderness. What stood before them was greater than their strength—but not greater than God.

We also face circumstances that feel greater than we are—uncertainty, loss, overwhelming responsibility, or struggles that continue longer than expected. Fear fixes our attention on what might happen and asks, “How will I make it through this?” God invites us to turn our attention toward Him. Remembering His faithfulness does not minimize what we face; it reminds us that the God of all creation is with us and greater than anything before us.

  • What situation feels greater or stronger than you?
  • When has God carried you through something you could not overcome alone?
  • What did that experience reveal about His character?
  • How might remembering His faithfulness change the way you face today?
  • What would trusting Him look like before your circumstances change?

PRAYER

Lord, You know what I face and the fears I carry. When I feel overwhelmed, help me remember how faithfully You have carried Your people and how faithfully You have carried me. Turn my attention from my circumstances to Your unchanging character. I place all fear before You and entrust my future into Your hands. Amen
