John 1

V. 29 - The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Jesus arrives as a “new Moses” and he invites all people then and now, into a “new exodus,” out of sin and slavery. Moses led the people through the wilderness and Joshua led the people into the promised land. Jesus, too, leads us in our wilderness journey of transformation. Jesus, too, leads us into new, abundant life in the Kingdom of God. 

Jesus calls us not to walk through the waters of the Red Sea or the Jordan River, but die to ourselves in the waters of baptism and be raised to new life. He invites us to live according to his kingdom, living the exodus way, as he removes “Egypt” from us. 

• Have you surrendered to Jesus and his exodus way out of sin and slavery?
• Have you followed Jesus into the waters of baptism? 
• What things of Egypt is he calling you to leave behind?

Dear Jesus, thank you for coming to deliver us from the evil of this world and the evil within us. Amen.
