Listen, Repent, and Obey
“Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Stand up! Why are you lying on your face like this? Israel has
sinned and broken my covenant!’”

Israel had witnessed God miraculously bring down the walls of Jericho. Yet at Ai, a much
smaller city, they were defeated. Devastated, Joshua fell before the Lord and asked why. God’s
answer was direct: there was hidden sin in the camp.
Achan had taken items from Jericho that God had commanded Israel to destroy or devote to
Him. He concealed them beneath his tent, but what was hidden from others was fully visible to God. His disobedience weakened the entire community.
When something goes wrong, our first response may be to question God. But sometimes He
wants us to stop, listen, and allow Him to search our hearts. We may be asking Him to change
our circumstances while He reveals something within us that needs to change.
Repentance is not God’s rejection but His invitation to return, be restored, and realign with Him. He exposes what is hidden because He loves us too much to leave compromise buried.
After Israel confronted the sin and obeyed God, their failure was not final. In Joshua 8, God sent them back to Ai. This time, they followed His direction, and He gave them victory!
God leads His people one step of obedience at a time. We may not understand every instruction, but when we listen, repent, and obey, He is faithful to restore us and leads us forward.

- change within you?
- Have you considered how your choices—even those you believe are hidden—may affect
- your family, church, or community?
- What step of repentance or obedience is God asking you to take today?
PRAYER
Search my heart, Lord. Reveal anything I have ignored, justified, or hidden. Give me humility to
repent, ears to hear Your voice, and courage to obey. Bring me back into alignment with You,
and lead me forward one faithful step at a time. Amen.
